Welcome to my kitchen

Welcome to a website for those who enjoy the process of cooking and food investigation as much as me. This site is all about food, its origins, the base ingredients and the joy that cooking can bring. I hope that you use this site as a resource to find out about odd ingredients, new ideas, traditional and non traditional views on dishes and ways to create them as well as a seasonal approach to your time in the kitchen.

I would have to say straight out that this is not a site for those who want easy solutions to meals or a healthy way to eat! Michal Haines.com looks at food as a whole, the creating and sharing of it. My passion for food is just that and this is all about the celebration of the diversity that food can bring us.

Around my home city of Auckland in New Zealand we are very lucky to have a fantastic array of migrants from all over Asia and over the past 20 years this has meant even though we live on the other side of the earth, we can now eat just like we would if we lived in Hong Kong or Shanghai, Malaysia or Singapore.

I will endeavour to bring you ideas, recipes and most importantly information about ingredients to grow your repoitre of dishes and your basic knowledge of food. The most important part is that you enjoy the journey and have fun doing it. Cooking can take you all over the globe through taste and provide you with an insight to other cultures through the understanding of different ingredients. Share with your friends, your family and those who appreciate the work that goes into crafting a great dish.

Enjoy the journey into the kitchen!
